Governor General's Foot Guards Youth Achievement Awards

The Governor General’s Foot Guards (GGFG) believes in the potential of Ottawa/Outaouais youth. As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, the regimental family has decided to give back to the community that has supported them so well over the years by inaugurating the GGFG Youth Achievement Awards.

This year, the GGFG will present three $5,000 awards and one $4,000 award to youth whose ability, hard work, and perseverance merits special recognition. They seek to celebrate and incentivize high performing young people in the Ottawa region as they pursue educational advancement or skills development.

The GGFG are Canada’s senior primary reserve infantry regiment. Based in Ottawa, the “Foot Guards” are recognized worldwide, proudly serving Canada domestically and internationally on operational deployments and ceremonial duties. Members of the GGFG are trained to a high standard and demonstrate principles, skills and professionalism that are indicative of model citizens. Those values and skills provide a lifelong foundation that is readily transferable to family life, work and community involvement.

Other than completing the application form, interested parties are requested to write a brief essay/nomination explaining why that individual deserves recognition.  Applicants/nominees will be assessed on how well they meet the criteria detailed below.

  • Pursuit of excellence;

  • Going above and beyond;

  • Overcoming adversity

  • Drive and determination

  • Pride of service to the community and country

Applications can be completed online or be sent via email to ggfgyouthawards@gmail.ca by March, 10th 2023.  Interviews (if required) will take place the following week. The Awards presentations are tentatively scheduled for the evening of 01 April 2023 in Ottawa.

The Ottawa/Outaouais region is fortunate to have so many bright, hardworking and promising young citizens in our community. The GGFG Youth Achievement Awards will build upon that inherent potential by helping the next generation of young leaders succeed in achieving their goals.
