Happy Seniors Month!

June is Seniors Month in Ontario. It’s a special time to recognize, honour and celebrate the older adults in our lives and in the community. We want to thank Ottawa’s older adults for being mentors, leaders, caregivers, volunteers, friends and contributors in building the community we live in today.

Together, let’s take this month to recognize the contributions of older adults. They’ve made our community stronger and continue to play a role in our collective well-being.

We encourage everyone to take the time to show your appreciation. You can do this by listening to their experiences, sharing a laugh, asking questions or simply enjoying a fun conversation. If you are not yet an older adult, remember that you are an older adult in training.

The City is committed to making Ottawa a community where older adults can age well. Key to this is the renewal of the Older Adult Plan (OAP). The development of the OAP 2025-2030 is underway. The voices of older adults from community consultation findings and the experiences of community agencies in service of older adults are guiding this work.

The development of the plan started with working sessions with the OAP Guidance Committee. The Committee includes City staff and 11 representatives from community agencies. This version of the OAP focuses on collaboration with community partners, which should have a greater collective impact on Ottawa’s older adult population.

We are excited about this work and the valuable contributions from community partners. Staff will share the OAP 2025-2030 with City Council for review and approval later in 2025.
