🦉 Fall Children's Programs 🦉
Staff at the Ruth E. Dickinson branch are excited to welcome children and families back for programming this fall! Registration is now open! Here are a few of our favourites. For a full list of children's programs happening at Ruth E. Dickinson, please click here
Preschool Show and Tell (September - October): Wednesdays at 2 pm starting September 13 - Join us for a preschool circle time with lots of stories, rhymes and songs, followed by a craft. Children are encouraged to bring an item or photo to share/talk about with the other participants. For children aged 3-4 (starting kindergarten in the fall of 2024) and a parent/caregiver. Siblings are welcome.
Sensory Storytime: Select Saturdays at 3 pm starting September 9 - Our monthly Storytime welcomes and respects the needs of children aged 0-6 years living with developmental disabilities and/or Autism, who may face barriers related to sensory experiences, show signs of, or are at risk for a developmental delay. A family member must be present for the entirety of the event. Offered in partnership with Mothercraft Ottawa. September 9, October 21, November 4, December 2
Night Owls Book Club: Monthly on select Thursdays starting September 28 at 6 pm - New to independent reading? Join our family book club and discover great reading suggestions to get you started and keep you going. We will share favorites, listen to read-alouds and participate in book-related art activities. For kids ages 6-8 and their adult reading partner.
We also offer a variety of drop-in programs (no registration required!) including: toddlertime, babytime, Early ON baby playgroup, contes en famille, Parenting in Ottawa, homework help and more!
🏳️🌈 Pride Perspectives: A Virtual Multigenerational Discussion Panel 🏳️🌈
Join us for a virtual multigenerational discussion panel in celebration of Capital Pride. The panel is made up of members of the National Capital Region’s 2SLGBTIA+ community across the age spectrum. The panel will discuss issues of expression and representation from an intergenerational perspective to see how things have changed, how they have stayed the same, and how to make a brighter future for this community. Thursday, August 31 at 1:30 pm on Zoom.

Staff are also excited to welcome adults back for programming this fall! All programs are drop-in (no registration required). We've got something for everyone - book club, crafting, cookbook book club, crochet group, and more! Programs resume the week of September 11-17. Join us for:
French Conversation Group - Beginner: Mondays at 7:30 pm / Intermediate: Tuesdays at 7:30 pm. Practice your French conversation skills in a low-pressure, friendly environment.
English Conversation Group - Tuesdays at 6:00 pm and Wednesdays at 7:00pm. Practice your English conversation skills in a low-pressure, friendly environment. All levels are welcome!
Older Adult Safety Series: Monthly on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm. Learn how to protect yourself and your loved ones in case of emergency.

Fall Plant Swap: Did you start too many seedlings? Have some extra perennials or houseplants? Bring them to the Ruth E. Dickinson Branch Fall Plant Swap and take some other plants home! We'll be set up outside of the branch near the main entrance on Saturday, September 16 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm
